Preparing your child for
First Reconciliation & Communion

On behalf of our parish community, it is a pleasure to welcome you as you begin preparing your child to celebrate God’s merciful love in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to be nourished with the Bread of Life for the first time at their First Communion. These are memorable and important milestones, as these young people begin taking their first steps in their lifelong journey of faith. But at this stage of their life, the guidance of their parents/caregivers is invaluable - and so we want our preparation process to include them along each step of the way!
To register for this sacrament during the 2023-24 school year, please follow the steps outlined below.

Step 1: Register Online
Please register your child with our online form.
Please note: registrations are due October 22, 2023.

Step 2: Attend Information Meeting
We will hold two information meetings for parents/ caregivers and First Communion candidates at 10:15 AM on Sunday, October 29 AND Sunday, February 25. Both meetings will be held at Sacred Heart School and will be followed by our 11 AM Mass and a Sundae Sunday social!
If you are unable to attend either meeting, please contact Fr. Patrick.

Resources for Preparation

At our information meeting, we will hand out some helpful resources to prepare for First Reconciliation & Communion. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please contact Fr. Patrick so we can arrange for you to receive these materials.
In addition, our parish subscribes to Formed.org, which is available to you free of charge (see our Formed page for details). There are plenty of great resources on Formed that can help prepare your child. We can recommend the series Signs of Grace. In just a handful of less-than-five-minute episodes, all the basics of the sacrament are covered.
First Reconciliation First Communion
Another helpful Formed series is the Brother Francis cartoon series, which includes an episode about Reconciliation and another episode on the Eucharist.

The Diocese of Hamilton also has published a pamphlet with helpful suggestions on helping your child prepare for their First Communion.
